Female Characters.

The story, as it stands centers around a character called Gem. Designing female characters always trips me up since it's tricky to come up with a design that's distinctive and appealing. Male characters tend to be a little more robust, being able to take a quite a bit of distortion before becoming too grotesque.
Oh I have a title for my story too "The Walking Statue"

Great to see your sketches. These are lovely.

Nice title, and I love the main character's name.

I prefer the first sketch. I quite like the idea of thick eyebrows as you have them there.

Take a plain ordinary female face and simply add small destinctions, one, maybe two, like thicker eyebrows (perhaps one has a gap in one of the eyebrows if you want to show tomboy tendencies, where she sports a scar).

One thing about drawing a female character is that your construction lines always distract from the image. Not so true with the male face where they can often add something. Maybe try blue line with normal pencil over?
But I like where you`re going very much. Especially the second character. Much more unique.
